Maze Alpha coming soon with amazing design
Maze Alpha with edge to edge styling and dual cameras
When Xiaomi shocked the world with not just a demo unit of a future handset but actually selling the Mi Mix Concept phone, we were in awe of its edge to edge styling and great screen to body ratio.
The Mi Mix whilst a great looking phone carries a huge price premium compared to other Chinese based handsets, this has put it out of the reach of many users that lust after its styling.
Hopefully the recent announcement by new tech startup Maze in Shenzen China will see a more affordable high screen to body ratio handset released towards the end of April this year.]
Maze have shown a few teaser images of the upcoming handset which appears to have ultra slim bezels and zero top chin (much like the Mix), the other thing that can be seen in the images is that the handset will feature dual rear cameras.
I spoke with a contact at Maze to find out a bit more about the new company, I asked where the name Maze came from and was advised that several members of the team were fans of the show Westworld and loved the idea that at the center of everything and behind all of the technical wonders there lies a maze, after a long discussion they decided that it was a fitting name for the company.
Maze was set up by the telecommunications company Yop and currently employs just over 800 personnel split between its offices and 3 manufacturing plants.
Maze has access to an 80 strong R&D team hopefully allowing it to leverage all of the ties it has made with major companies such as Samsung, Qualcomm and Sharp.
Over the past 5 years in its roll as an OEM/ODM manufacturer to produce innovative products under its own branding.
I tried to press them for more information on the handset and got a little more than had been currently released, the phone will feature an edge to edge 6″ full vision Amoled display with Gorilla glass 4 protection.
They also hinted that the fingerprint scanner may not be on the front or rear of the phone, could this mean that they are planning on implementing an ultrasonic reader? or perhaps one of the handsets side buttons will house the reader.
Something they were happy to speak about is the phones OS, the phone will launch with Andoid OS 7 out of the box (possibly 7.1) this will hopefully be a fairly stock implementation.
Aside from the above information little else is known about the Maze Alpha, other than its expected release date towards the end of April.
Once I have more information I will update you, this could be a phone with a great deal of promise providing Maze can give it competitive hardware and a price to match.
I will be keeping a close eye on this one as a possible replacement for my Xiaomi MI5
